Should you take PMP(R) Certification or CAPM(R) certification? Your decision should depend on your experience. Now people can keep their CAPM(R) certification with a minimal number of PDUs every 3 years, and it is easier to pass. If you have been challenged by the PMP Certification in the past, you could consider the following:
(1) Some people who take the CAPM certification find it useful to jump start a project management career. Others do it first to gain credibility while they are accumulating enough hours and years of experience so they can apply for the PMP(R) certification exam.
(2) For those that struggle with tough exams, you could have a very workable combination of CAPM & Agile Certification; that is, the PMI-ACP certification and some good Power BI skills for decision making presentations. The CAPM exam application doesn’t require any experience for you to take the CAPM exam. If you have no exposure to project management it would be best to take a basic project management concept class first, because the class assumes you have at least some limited exposure to project management and it would make the CAPM Certification training easier. Once you achieve the CAPM certification, then if you have an opportunities to be on an agile team in some way, that should be your next opportunity.
(3) Most CAPM certified people might work on the project team most of the time, or the CAPM can be a stepping stone to the PMP certification, the PMI-ACP Certification or even Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.
(4) PMP(R) Certification is achievable. Even if learning is difficult for you, project managers can apply what they have learned, they can help others, then they can try again. I have never seen anyone not pass, who was determined to get their PMP exam so matter what. The thing is how badly do you want it? What does it mean for you to achieve it? Follow the steps to successfully pass the PMP exam and put in the required effort.
